Kieran "Lights Out" Brown

What is your nickname and if you do have a nickname how did you get it?

Kieran "lights out" Brown.... Me and my coach were chatting after a training session and he told me id have to bang the guys lights out that I’m fighting in December....so "Lights out" Brown was born!!

Why fight MMA?

I’ve tried boxing but I wanted to use more of my body, skills and different techniques.

Who is the best MMA fighter in your opinion?

Matt Hughes, because he's well rounded and was a great UFC champ!

Who was your toughest opponent?

Myself , because as a fighter its easy stand toe to toe with someone, easy to submit or be submitted, but to have the discipline to train every day , follow strict diets, sacrifice weekends out; that takes lots of determination and focus and I expect to control any opponent, so I must also be able to control myself.

What fighter do you resemble?

Ruthless Robbie Lawler

Where do you train and who are your trainers?

I train at the Zoo Fight club in Hastings, East Sussex.
My coach is Paul Saunders.

What do you look for in other fighters?

I like fighters who stand and drop bombs.

What motivates you to fight?

Built up aggression

What would you do if you were not a fighter?

Id probably be in prison

If you could fight anyone in the sport of MMA, who would it be and why?

Alex Reid......He's a good stand up fighter and i fancy my chances.

If you could fight anyone NOT in the sport, who would it be and why?

Ian Beale in Eastenders.....he really winds me up.

Have you any superstition or mania on fighting days?

No not at all.

Are there Fans, Friends or sponsors you would like to thank and give a shout out to?

Yes I’d like to thank my coach Paul Saunders, my manager Yasmin Edwards and my sparring partners who all take time out from their busy schedules to help me prepare for my December fight.

How can folks contact you?

You can check out my Facebook page, Kieran lights out brown or look out for the zoo fight club website coming soon.

Why fight MMA?

I first fought MMA to prove to my brother and my BJJ coach I could do it, my older brother got me into the sport as I was wasting my time doing nothing. He paid for my first month gym membership so I didn’t have an excuse not to go and my BJJ coach had always told me I need a black belt b4 I have a MMA fight but I didn’t want to wait that long.

Who is the best MMA fighter in your opinion?

The best MMA fighter is probably GSP or Anderson Silva as they seem to have very rounded styles, my favorite MMA fighter is Nick Diaz he is exciting to watch and has proved himself so many times

What fighter do you most resemble?

I think I have attributes of many fighters; my mind set is that of Kenny Florian, my ground game is like Nike Diaz or Jason Miller very flexible and good off my back. My stand up is like Rickson Gracie (just kidding), probably Kenny Florian

Who was your toughest opponent?

I’d have to say a fighter called Rodrigo Aruzu. It was my first MMA fight and my main thing was grappling and he was the better there, so I had to try keeping it standing or get on top. He was a late swap and I was so eager to fight I took it without thinking.

Where do you train and who are your trainers?

I train all over the world. My goal is to spread my self thin every where so I have lots of connections and places to train. I went to Brazil when I first started and trained at Gracie Barra, just BJJ. Then in Hastings with Paul bridges, he was my first coach. Then I went back to Brazil and trained with the GB72 combat team training Vale Tudo. I then came back to UK and started hassling Sol Gilbert (ZT fight skool) asking him to get me fights, place to live near the school and a job and he really helped out with it all and pushed me in my training and also introduced me to Alexis and Paul at London Shoot who prepared me for my fights. After a bad fight were I cut too much weight and didn’t perform well I didn’t know whether MMA was for me so I went AWOL for a while and moved to India for three months were I spent time with a Guruji doing yoga, meditation and taking different highs. Whilst there I saw two kids wrestling and I was messing around showing them submissions and I realized I loved MMA and needed to get over the fear so I traveled to Thailand were I was training at Superpro Kho Samui for 1 year. I had a few Muay Thai fights out there and then competed in a wrestling tournament at tiger Muay Thai and trained there for a while. I tried to get a fight in Australia through Roots Martial Arts in Sydney, but it didn’t work out. I trained there for a month then come back to the new ZT fight skool in hove were I took a fight in the same arena that I lost in before against Richard Griffin and won in 1:02 seconds via triangle. I’m now a Ronin traveling and training all over. I just got back from Holland training with Dennis Rock, and have been accepted to train and fight in USA Portland Oregon at team quest.

What do you look for in other fighters?

I look for fun and love for the sport, as soon as that goes its time to find a new sport. Some days it can be really hard and leave u feeling rubbish but the highs are worth it, similar to a hang over.

What motivates you to fight?

I’m motivated by not wanting to fold into the modern man who has had the passion sucked out of him by the day to day life that were led to believe is normal, I look at old films of gladiators and warriors and hunters and I realize that with out that passion, we are already dead

If you could fight anyone in the sport of MMA, who would it be and why?

I would fight, Josh Koscheck. I respect him as a fighter but something about him grinds my gears and makes me want to tear him apart, but I think a couple more years before I’m doing that.

If you could fight anyone NOT in the sport, who would it be and why?

I’d probably fight in a tournament of the girls in the playboy mansion, we can all dream right.

Are there Fans, Friends or sponsors you would like to thank and give a shout out to?

I don’t have any sponsors as I’m not in the country long enough which is strange as I would be a world wide advert. I’d like to thank all my fans on my face book page Mad Jack Magee. I would like to thank all my training partners and coaches. I would mainly like to thank John The Hitman Hathaway, he’s my best friend and training partner who lets me stay on his sofa when I’m in UK, and Joel Bowen my best friend from USA who’s setting up connections there. I’d like to thank all the gyms I’ve trained at, Hastings Gracie Barra, Gracie Barra brazil GB72, Superpro Kho Samui Tiger Muay Thai, Thai Pinyo ATT coach Mario Big Hurt Rinaldi, London shoot fighters Rock gym Holland team quest USA and last but not least ZT fight skool and fitness all the guys there are great and Sol Gilbert is doing a good job there

Thanks be to god also.

Why fight MMA?

It was a natural progression for me, I always crossed trained since I started training in martial arts and combat sport. I grew up watching kung fu movie or action flicks like Bloodsport and so on and just wanted to do the same thing but for real. When I saw the 1st UFC in 93 I was fighting kickboxing in Houston Texas and wanted to do it straight away. I sent my application in the UFC back in 1994 but never got any reply (until April 07 lol) but did my 1st Vale Tudo tourney back in 95.

Who is the best MMA fighter in your opinion?

It’s hard to pick between Fedor and GSP. George is very well rounded and can do it all but he’s also a tremendous athlete genetically. I think he could have picked any sport and he would have been great at it. I remember hearing crazy story’s about him from my friend Kristofe Midoux and Antony Rea even before he fought in the UFC and how much of a freak he was. Fedor is very well rounded also but even so every body see him as a machine a see him as being more human than GSP if it make sense. Fedor he s your typical east European fighter who had a background in sambo (or sometime judo/wrestling) and just train the hard way all his life. Anyway, I will pick both of them. And the best thing about it is that both those guys are also great human being and very humble.

What fighter do you most resemble?

It s very hard to say because we all got our unique style in a way but I am not gonna be boring by giving you a stupid answer so I am gonna say Babalu maybe, because my latest fight have been similar to the way he fight.

Where do you train and who are your trainers?

I dont have a trainer. I still travel a lot and train with all bunch of different peoples. I am trying to learn from every body, even people that dont necessary fight MMA. I am very open-minded and wanna learn from every body. Recently I’ve been working some Muay Thai again and work on some very small details with David Hergault and my boxing and conditioning with Parfait Ndonda back in Hong Kong. In France I train with Flavio Santiago and in London I just train by myself.

What motivates you to fight?

I’ve been fighting since I was 16 years old so it s something I always done. I would miss it if I didnt do it, it s part of my life. Like every fighter and I am not talking about those cage fighters wanna be. We have that competitive mentality and always want to prove our self that we can beat some good opponent. That s what keep me going. Unfortunately I cant fight as much as before now, I am 36 years old and i got to think about my future so i cant be training for 2 months with out making some good money. I dont want to finish broke in a small apartment with only my trophy s and belt as a souvenir.

If you could fight anyone in the sport of MMA, who would it be and why?

Mike Bisping, just because we dont really like each other and I dont think he’s a nice person. Or someone like Royce Gracie or Sakuraba just for the kick of facing a living legend.

If you could fight anyone NOT in the sport, who would it be and why?

The top 10 of all internet trolls

Are there Fans, Friends or sponsors you would like to thank and give a shout out to?

I would like to thanks Ed Hardy for sponsoring me for my last fight. The peoples that helped me train like Antony Rea, David Hergault and Parfait Ndonda. And a big thanks to all the fans that support me every day. A shout out to Dean Albrecht that never paid me any of my sponsors from my UFC fights.
